Show us something that's DIY.
Submitted by Jenstar
It was so cheap and easy to do! I love it and use it at least once a week.
It's since been modified to hold a few extra lights, and I'm thinking of maybe even making a larger one now that we have more space here in the new house.
I posted a few examples of the pictures I took in the box below, or if you'd like to see the complete set feel free to browse my flickr set. On White.

This was the view from our hotel room at the Mirage hotel, off of the strip in Vegas. The desert sky was just amazing.
Just a list of some photographers I'm admiring and getting inspiration from before I go to photograph John & Sung's new baby girl.
I went to get some props, fabrics, and backdrops today. I'm excited! After using my camera a lot over the last week I've gotten my knack back.

Oh man. I'm so happy to be using my camera again!
Tonight there was a pretty big rainstorm in the Chicago area. There were flash flood warnings and storm warnings. Our sattelite TV kept cutting out so I didn't have much to do.
Catching The Light
I set up a makeshift tripod on my kitchen table and opened up the screen door that overlooks our back yard. Then I turned out all of the lights in the house that would affect the shot and got a 50MM Fixed lens. Since I didn't know when the lightning would be striking I decided to shoot in Manual mode and use the bulb setting for the shutter speed. This way I could hold down the shutter and just release it when the lightning struck. Since I wanted to focus as far as possible I started with the smallest aperture possible for the lens I had, which was pretty small (f22), and since I didn't want the shot overexposed I went with an ISO of 100.
It Took Forever
Basically you're sitting there, holding the shutter down, waiting for the lightning to strike.
This is not an easy task considering I had no remote shutter release at all, so I was pretty much holding my breath trying really REALLY hard not to move the camera at all.
When I finally got the first shot, I realized it was too dark
......so I adjusted the aperture to f16 and waited around forever again for the lightning to strike....
Wowee! I was so excited to see it! Too bad it's a little blurry, and the quality isn't that great. This is just the jpeg straight from my dslr. When I get my own computer again I will get the raw images from the camera so I can proccess them correctly.
Pretty kewl! I can't wait for the next lightning storm to hit now. I'm gonna have to go get myself a remote shutter release so I'm ready next time.
Tomorrow I've got my first photography gig since about 3 or 4 months ago.
I took some time away from my camera since we were pretty busy over the summer with the kids being out of school and the move across the city to our new house.
A friend of mine had a baby about a week ago and I promised her & her husband I would come and take some pictures of them all.
I feel kinda rusty and akward with my camera now and I have no computer to proccess the photos with!
I'm sure all will go well, but wish me luck anyways ;).

Lensbabies has announced their new 3G lens, which is the same lens as the Lensbaby 2, but it has a focus locking mechanism on it that allows you to fine tune your focus. Great for people who want to use tripods for keeping your shots steady with the macro kit.
Sadly they are starting them out at $270.00 which is a lot compared to previous Lensbaby lenses. I'm not sure what brought on the huge price jump. As much as I want one, I'm hesitant to pay that much for a 3G when I already own a Lensbaby 2.0.

Show us a cool shadow.
I took this photo as an assignment way back when I first started taking classes for Photography. The assignment required us to take photos of shadows, but we couldn't include the object creating the shadow unless it added to the composition of the photo. I found this assignment fun because it really made us think about the picture, before we took it.
Since then this photo has been in a few galleries here in Chicago, and was even in a magazine last spring.
Besides the "oh neat" factor, it has a bit of sentimental value for me, since the shadow is of my husband, and he (well, his shadow) is holding my valentines day flowers that he bought for me.
